What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • A brush
  • Baking soda
  • Borax
  • Warm water
  • Paper towel

Step #1: Dilute the Stain

Diluting the stain is the first step in removing it. Start by pouring some white vinegar onto stained part of your overalls. Then, use a brush to gently scrub the area with the vinegar, making sure to get as much of the varnish up as possible.

Step #2: Apply Baking Soda and Borax

Once you have scrubbed the stain with the vinegar, sprinkle some baking soda and borax on it. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes before scrubbing it again. This will help to break down the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step #3: Rinse the Stained Area

After scrubbing the area with baking soda and borax mixture, rinse the area with warm water. Be sure to get as much of solution off as possible. Once you have done this, use a paper towel to gently pat area until dry.

Step #4: Repeat Steps as Necessary

If you find that the stain is still visible after the first attempt, repeat the steps until the stain is removed completely. It may take several attempts, but with patience and persistence, you can say goodbye to that stubborn varnish stain once and for all!
