The first thing to do is to carefully inspect the varnish stained area. Check for any loose strands or knots in the macramé before attempting to start cleaning. If any fraying strands or knots are found, stop cleaning immediately and consult a professional.

Once you have determined that the macramé is safe to clean, you will need to get some supplies. You will need rubber gloves, white cloth rags, lukewarm water, a mild detergent, and a brush with stiff bristles. First, put on your rubber gloves to protect your hands. Then, gently dampen one of the cloth rags with lukewarm water. Add a small drop of detergent to the rag, and then start to scrub stain gently. As you work, use the stiff bristled brush to help remove any hard to reach varnish residue.

If the varnish stain persists, mix a paste of lukewarm water and baking soda. Apply the paste directly to the stain and leave it on for up to an hour. Then, rinse affected area with lukewarm water and lightly scrub with the cloth and brush. After that, dry the area with a clean cloth and repeat the process if necessary. If the stain still isn't gone, consider enlisting the help of a professional.

With these simple steps, you can easily remove varnish stains from macramé. Just remember to wear rubber gloves, use lukewarm water and a mild detergent, and take your time. With patience and effort, you can restore your macramé to its original glory!
