Remove Varnish as Quickly as Possible

If you spot a varnish stain on your Levi’s, try to deal with it as soon as possible. The longer the stain is left to set in, the harder it can be to remove.

Start with Starch

A light application of starch on a clean cloth can help to start breaking down the varnish stain. Gently scrub the stained area of your jeans with the starch-soaked cloth, taking care not to add any pressure. Do this for about 30 seconds before moving on to the next step.

Use Rubbing Alcohol

Once you’ve scrubbed away any excess varnish residue with starch, you can move onto using rubbing alcohol. This is much more effective at removing the stain, and you can apply it directly onto the affected area of your jeans. Let it work its magic for around 10 minutes before you move on.

Wash with Detergent

Once you’ve allowed the rubbing alcohol enough time to work its way into the varnish stain, it’s time to wash the jeans. Use a detergent specifically formulated for denim and follow the instructions on the bottle. If the stain is still visible after the initial wash, you may need to go for a second round.
