Materials Needed

  • White cloth
  • Dishwashing detergent
  • Vinegar
  • Ammonia
  • Hairdryer

Instructions

  1. Lay the jumper out flat on a solid surface.
  2. Soak a white cloth in a mild dishwashing detergent.
  3. Gently rub the stained area with the damp cloth.
  4. Mix equal parts vinegar and ammonia in a bowl.
  5. Dip the cloth in the vinegar-ammonia mixture and dab the affected area.
  6. Continue until stain is gone.
  7. Rinse the treated area with cold water.
  8. Blot the fabric dry with a clean cloth.
  9. Finish up by using a hairdryer to dry the area completely.

Tips

  • If the stain is still present after using the vinegar-ammonia mixture, use a small amount of rubbing alcohol.
  • Always test a hidden area of the jumper first before attempting to remove a varnish stain from outside.
  • Avoid using hot water when cleaning varnish stains, as this can cause the stain to set.
  • Never pour vinegar or ammonia directly onto fabric.
