Accidentally spilling varnish or nail polish on a beloved jersey can be an upsetting experience. But while it may seem like a lost cause, there are ways to safely and effectively clean varnish stains off of your jersey. Before you start, always pay attention to the care instructions tag in your garment.
What Supplies You'll Need
To start, you'll need the following supplies:
- Mild dish soap
- White vinegar
- Clean, white cloths
- A soft-bristled brush
Step-by-Step Guide to Remove Varnish Stains
- Start by dipping a clean, white cloth in some mild dish soap and warm water. Gently dab the soapy cloth onto the stained area, taking care not to rub it in.
- Rinse the area with cold water and pat dry with a clean, white cloth.
- Mix one part white vinegar to two parts warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and apply to the stained area. Make sure to only dab the cloth onto the stained section of the jersey.
- Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes, then rinse area with cold water. Pat dry with a clean cloth.
- If the stain still remains, you can try using a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the area. Rinse with cold water and pat dry with a clean cloth.
Additional Tips
- When treating the stain, take care to only use light pressure
- Always read care instructions tag before attempting to clean jersey
- Test any cleaning solutions on a small, inconspicuous area of the jersey before moving on to stained area
