Varnish is a hard, glossy finishing coat that is applied to surfaces to protect them and enhance their appearance. It is made up of resins, solvents, and oil and is available in various forms such as paste, spray, and liquid. Unfortunately, varnish can accidentally spill onto fabric like Jacquard, leading to annoying and difficult-to-remove stains.
The first step in removing varnish stains from Jacquard fabric is to assess the severity of stain. If it’s light, you may be able to mix white vinegar and alcohol together in equal parts and apply it gently to the stained area. Use a damp, clean cloth and blot spot until the stain fades away.
If the stain is more stubborn, you may need to apply a stronger solution to break up the varnish. One proven method is to mix lemon juice and baking soda in equal parts and then applying it to the stained area with a clean cloth. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then rub the affected area with a soft-bristle brush or sponge. Afterward, wipe down the area with a damp towel.
Once the stain is gone, you should launder the Jacquard fabric as you normally would with cool water and a mild detergent. Repeat the process as necessary until the varnish stain is completely gone.
