What You'll Need to Remove Varnish Stains
The first step in removing varnish stains is gathering the right supplies. You'll need a few items to make sure you thoroughly clean hair ties.
- Mild detergent
- Soft brush (an old toothbrush works great)
- Vinegar and water solution
- Baking soda
How to Clean Varnish Stains from Hair Ties
- Start by washing hair ties with a mild detergent and soft brush. This will remove any dirt or grime that could be trapping the varnish stain.
- Mix a solution of one part vinegar to four parts water. Soak the stained hair ties in this mixture for about 15 minutes.
- Next, make a paste using baking soda and water. Gently rub the paste onto the stained areas and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse the hair ties completely and allow to dry completely before using.
Additional Tips
- If stain is still visible after following the steps above, try soaking the hair ties overnight in a vinegar and baking soda solution.
- Be sure the hair ties are laid flat while drying to prevent permanent creasing.
- Always use a mild detergent to clean hair ties. Harsh cleaning agents can further damage the material.
