What You'll Need to Remove Varnish Stains

The first step in removing varnish stains is gathering the right supplies. You'll need a few items to make sure you thoroughly clean hair ties.

  • Mild detergent
  • Soft brush (an old toothbrush works great)
  • Vinegar and water solution
  • Baking soda

How to Clean Varnish Stains from Hair Ties

  1. Start by washing hair ties with a mild detergent and soft brush. This will remove any dirt or grime that could be trapping the varnish stain.
  2. Mix a solution of one part vinegar to four parts water. Soak the stained hair ties in this mixture for about 15 minutes.
  3. Next, make a paste using baking soda and water. Gently rub the paste onto the stained areas and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Rinse the hair ties completely and allow to dry completely before using.

Additional Tips

  • If stain is still visible after following the steps above, try soaking the hair ties overnight in a vinegar and baking soda solution.
  • Be sure the hair ties are laid flat while drying to prevent permanent creasing.
  • Always use a mild detergent to clean hair ties. Harsh cleaning agents can further damage the material.
