Remove Excess First

Before attempting to remove the stain, use a blunt knife or the back of a spoon to carefully scrape away any excess dried varnish from the gingham fabric.

Test a Stain Remover

Next, it's best to test a stain remover before applying it to the full fabric, so begin by mixing a small amount of the cleaning agent with water. Use a cotton swab to apply the mixture to a hidden area of the gingham fabric. Wait a few minutes before wiping away with a wet cloth; if no discoloration shows, the fabric is safe to use the same solution on the visible stain.

Treat the Stain with the Right Solution

Mix the stain remover and water together and pour the mixture onto the stained area. Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing gently with a scrub brush. Rinse with cold water when finished. Repeat as necessary until the stain has been removed.

Hand Wash or Dry Clean

Once stain has been removed, hand wash or dry clean the gingham fabric to finish the job. Hang to air dry and then press as needed.
