Using Turpentine and a Cloth

You can use turpentine and a cloth to clean varnish stains out of your garter. Begin by dampening the stained area with clean, warm water. Apply a few drops of turpentine to the stained area and gently rub it into the fabric with a cloth. Allow the turpentine to set for one to two minutes before rinsing the area with warm water. After excess turpentine has been removed, you can machine wash the garter in warm water.

Using White Vinegar

Another safe and effective way to remove varnish from your garter is to use white vinegar. Mix one part white vinegar to two parts warm water, and use a cloth or soft-bristled brush to scrub mixture into the stained area. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes before machine washing your garter in warm water.

Using Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol can also be used to remove varnish from your garter. Place a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cloth and apply it to the stained area. Gently rub the cloth in circular motions until the stain begins to fade. Rinse the area with clean, warm water and machine wash your garter as normal.

Things to Avoid

When cleaning your garter with any of the above methods, it’s important to take care not to damage the fabric. Avoid using abrasive materials like steel wool or scouring pads as they can cause damage to the delicate fibers. Additionally, do not use strong solvents like acetone as they can discolor and weaken the fabric.
