Steps for Cleaning Varnish Stains from a Cutting Board
- Mix one part vinegar and four parts water in a bowl. Soak a cleaning cloth and squeeze it out until it is damp, not wet.
- Gently rub the stained area of the cutting board with the damp cloth and vinegar solution for a few minutes. Don't scrub too hard as this can damage the wood.
- Rinse the cutting board with clean water and a clean cloth.
- If the stain is still present, mix one part baking soda and one part dish soap in a bowl. Apply it to the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes then rinse the cutting board.
- To preserve wood and give it a nice shine, apply a light layer of mineral oil to board and rub it in with a soft cloth. This will also help protect the wood from future staining.
