Step 1: Scrape Off Excess Varnish

Carefully use a spoon or blunt knife to scrape off any excess varnish on surface of your cotton voile. Take care not to press the scraping tool too hard so you avoid brushing the varnish deeper into the fabric.

Step 2: Apply a Solvent

Prepare a solution of one part white vinegar mixed with three parts mineral spirits in a bowl. Working in circular motions with a soft bristle brush, apply the solution around edges of stain. This will help loosen varnish from the fabric fibers.

Step 3: Blot with a Clean Cloth

Once solvent has been applied, use a clean cloth to blot the area gently. Avoid rubbing the cotton voile fabric as this could push the varnish further into the fibers.

Step 4: Rinse with Cold Water

To rinse the solvent off, run cold water from the faucet and pour it onto the stained area. To get rid of any remaining traces of the varnish, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the varnish disappears.

Step 5: Let Air Dry

Once the varnish has been removed, hang your voile up and let it air dry. Do not attempt to dry it with an electric appliance as this could cause the fabric to shrink.

Conclusion

Cleaning varnish stains from cotton voile does not have to be a chore. With a few simple steps and household products, you can quickly and easily remove them. Now your voile will look as good as new!
