varnish

Varnish is a glossy substance that is often used in wood finishing and art projects. Unfortunately, varnish is also highly prone to accidental spills, and these spills can leave behind unsightly stains on clothing and fabric items, such as jeans. Luckily, there is a way to remove varnish stains from cotton denim with relative ease.

Steps to Remove Varnish Stains from Cotton Denim

  1. Start by scraping off any excess varnish with a butter knife or other blunt object.
  2. Mix together an equal portion of white vinegar and liquid dish detergent.
  3. Dab the mixture onto the stained area of the denim with a clean cloth.
  4. Gently rub the stained area with the cloth until the stain begins to fade.
  5. Once the stain has faded, rinse the area with warm water.
  6. Air-dry the denim, or tumble dry on a low setting.

Tips for Preventing and Dealing With Varnish Stains on Denim

  • As soon as you notice a spill, blot the area with a dry cloth to absorb as much of the liquid as possible.
  • Immediately after a spill, pour a generous amount of talcum powder over the affected area. Let the powder sit for several minutes, then brush it away.
  • If your jeans are already stained, consider washing them in cold water with a heavy-duty laundry detergent before attempting to remove stain.
