The first step in removing a varnish stain from your Coach bag is to identify the type of leather it is made from. This is important because the cleaning process will vary depending on if your bag is made out of smooth or fabric leather. It is also best to test any proposed cleaning technique in a discreet area, like the underside of the bag, before trying it on main area.
To get started, grab a soft cloth and some lukewarm water. Dip the cloth in the water and gently dab at the varnish stain. This will help to loosen it so you can wipe away majority of it.
Once the stain has been removed, you will need to take an additional step. Use a rugged eraser to gently buff away any remaining residue. It is important to be gentle when doing this, as too much pressure can damage the leather.
After the stain has been removed, use a damp cloth to wipe away any excess eraser residue. Allow spot to dry completely before using your bag again.
Fabric leather bags require a different approach. Start by using a sponge to wet the area of stain. Rub the area with the wet sponge in a circular motion, which should help to loosen the stain. After majority of the stain is gone, it is time to move on to the next step.
Grab some mild soap and mix it with warm water. Take a soft cloth and dip it in mixture. Dab the cloth on the stain until it is completely gone.
Allow the area to dry thoroughly before using your bag again. You may also want to condition the leather to make sure it stays soft and supple.
