Gather Your Materials

To get started on cleaning your clogs, it’s important to have the right materials. For this project you will need a gentle soap (dish soap or laundry detergent work well), a soft cloth, warm water, and a small brush.

Removing the Varnish

To begin removing the varnish, wet the surface of clog and apply your chosen soap. Work soap into the stained area with the cloth in a circular motion for several minutes. Once the varnish has been worked in properly, give it a few more minutes to sit and penetrate the stain.

If needed, use the small brush to help lift away the varnish residue. Rinse your clog with warm water and repeat if necessary. Once varnish is completely gone, rinse one more time with cold water and let the clog fully dry before wearing.

Stain Prevention Tips

To help prevent future varnish stains, make sure that any polishes or protective products used on your clogs are capable of resisting water, oil, and dirt. Additionally, it is important to clean and condition your clogs regularly to keep them looking their best.
