1. Test Your Cleaning Product Beforehand
Before you start cleaning your varnish stain, it is important to test product you plan to use on an inconspicuous area of the fabric. This will ensure that the product isn’t going to damage the delicate fabric. Apply a small amount of the product to the fabric and wait a few minutes. Then check fabric to make sure the color and texture are not altered.
2. Blot the Stain With a Damp Cloth
Take a damp cloth and gently blot the stained area. Do not rub it, as this might spread the stain or damage the fabric. Keep blotting until the stain is no longer visible or is significantly reduced.
3. Apply a Stain Remover
Once you have blotted the stain as much as possible, it is time to apply a stain remover specifically designed for dealing with varnish stains. Saturate the stain with the remover and then allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes. After the remover has had a chance to work its magic, use a damp cloth to wipe away the residue.
4. Wash the Fabric With Mild Detergent
Once all residue has been removed, it is time to wash the fabric. Use a mild detergent and cold water and follow the instructions on the label. For best results, use the gentle cycle on the washing machine. Allow the fabric to air dry, or place it in the dryer on the lowest setting.
5. Repeat if Necessary
If stain remains after these steps, it may be necessary to repeat them. Be sure to test any additional products before use to prevent damaging the fabric.
