Mix a solution of warm water and mild detergent in a bowl. Do not use chlorine bleach or fabric softener as these could damage the lace. Gently swish mixture around to create delicate suds.
Once suds have formed, soak the stained area of the lace in the sudsy solution for 30 minutes. Do not immediately scrub or rub the stain. Letting it sit will allow the solution to do most of the work without damaging the delicate material.
Carefully rinse away the detergent with cold water. Pat dry the fabric with a soft cloth, avoiding rubbing or scrubbing. Make sure the fabric is fully dry before moving onto the next step.
Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to stained area of the fabric with a q-tip or soft cloth. Gently dab or rub the stain to remove any residue. Do not saturate the fabric, as this could cause further damage.
Allow the fabric to air dry completely. Once dry, inspect the lace to make sure varnish is completely removed and that no alcohol residue remains.
