Removing Varnish from Cashmere

  1. Start by blotting the stain with a dry cloth or paper towel. Do not scrub or rub the stain, as this will only make it worse by spreading it further.
  2. Mix up a solution by combining one part white vinegar to three parts cold water. Dip a cotton swab in mixture and use it to gently dab at the stain.
  3. Let the cashmere air-dry. If any of the stain remains, repeat the vinegar and water mixture and dabbing steps.

Additional Tips for Removing Varnish From Cashmere

  • Be sure to check care instructions on your cashmere garment before attempting to remove the stain.
  • If the stain persists after trying the vinegar and water method, try using rubbing alcohol as an alternative cleaning solution. Be sure to test it in an inconspicuous area first.
  • If you don't have white vinegar on hand, lemon juice may also help to break down the varnish.
  • Do not ever use bleach or other harsh chemicals to remove a varnish stain from cashmere.
