Step 1: Blotting & Pretreating

Start off by blotting off any excess varnish with a cloth or paper towel. Don’t rub on the stain, this will just spread it out and make things worse. After blotting off what you can, spray a pretreatment solution onto the affected area which will help break down the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step 2: Soak & Scrub

Place the shoes in a bucket of warm water and let them soak for an hour or two. This will help loosen the stain and make it easier to remove. After they have soaked for a while, gently scrub the area of the shoes that is stained with a soft cloth and some mild detergent. Once the stain has been removed, rinse the shoes off with clean water.

Step 3: Thoroughly Dry & Apply Protector

Once stain is completely gone, be sure to fully dry the bottom of the shoes. Place them in direct sunlight or use a hair dryer to speed up the process. Once the shoes are totally dry, apply a protector or sealant to prevent future stains from occurring.
