Varnish is a type of sealant that is used in many woodworking and other craft projects. It looks great while it’s still wet, but once it dries, it can leave behind an unsightly stain. This can be especially problematic if you’re working with a material like a bandana which is made up of layers of fibers.

Removing varnish stains from bandanas isn’t as difficult as it might seem. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get rid of those stubborn spots.

What You’ll Need

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Water

Steps to Remove the Stain

  1. Start by soaking the bandana in rubbing alcohol for about five minutes.
  2. Once the bandana has soaked, rinse it in water.
  3. Mix some white vinegar and dish soap together and use it to scrub away at the varnish stain.
  4. Rinse the bandana in cold water again and then hang it to dry.

If varnish stain still persists, you may need to repeat process multiple times before it finally comes out. However, if you follow the steps carefully, it should eventually come off.
