Varnish stains can be particularly difficult to remove because they’re made from lacquer and resins. Still, there are steps you can take to help remove varnish. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Rubbing alcohol: Rubbing alcohol works best for removing varnish stains. It works as a solvent and can break down the varnish without damaging the material of the accessory.
  • Cotton swabs: Cotton swabs are great for precision cleaning and can get into smaller, harder-to-reach places.
  • Baking soda: Baking soda works as an abrasive agent to help loosen and remove varnish from the fabric.
  • Water: Water is essential for rinsing away loose particles and helping the varnish come off easier.

Now that you have all of your materials, let’s start cleaning!

Step 1: Apply Rubbing Alcohol Directly to the Stain

Take a cotton swab and dip it directly into the rubbing alcohol. Then use the swab to dab stain. Be sure to work in small circles and keep the swab saturated with alcohol for best results. Continue this process until you notice the varnish starting to loosen.

Step 2: Rub the Stain with Baking Soda

Mix some baking soda with a small amount of water to create a paste. Take this paste and rub it gently on the stained area with circular motions. This will help to further loosen the varnish. If you find that baking soda isn’t working, try adding a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the mixture.

Step 3: Rinse Away Loose Particles

Once you’ve rubbed the stain, use a damp cloth or paper towel to rinse away any loose particles. This will help to ensure that none of the varnish remains on the fabric.

Step 4: Repeat as Needed

You may need to repeat cleaning process a few times to completely remove the stain. Be sure to wait for the fabric to dry completely before attempting the process again.

If you find that the stain isn’t coming out, you may need to take your accessory to a professional cleaner. They will have access to stronger cleaning solutions that can more effectively tackle stain.

With these easy steps, you can successfully remove varnish stains from your accessories. Good luck!
