If you can treat a urine stain right away - within a few minutes - you’ll have the best chance of removing it completely. You‘ll first need to flush the area with cold water and blot up any excess liquid. You should then mix 1 tablespoon of enzyme-based detergent (such as Tide or OxiClean) with ¼ cup of lukewarm water. Using a clean cloth, apply your detergent solution to the stain and gently scrub the fabric, taking care not to rub too hard and damage the fibers of the material. After you’ve added the soap, rinse fabric with cool, clear water. You may need to repeat the process once or twice if the stain is particularly stubborn.
If the stain is not fresh, you’ll need to soak it. Make a solution of equal parts white vinegar and lukewarm water. Soak your tie in this solution for 15-30 minutes before rinsing in cool water. You can then apply detergent and lightly scrub the area like before, then rinse with cool water. Reapply vinegar solution if the stain stubbornly persists. It may take several applications to finally remove the stain.
