What You Need

  • Enzyme-based laundry detergent or liquid dishwashing soap
  • A damp cloth
  • A washing machine
  • Baking soda (optional)
  • Hydrogen peroxide (optional)

Steps to Take

  1. As soon as you realize that a urine stain has gotten onto your sweatshirt, take off the clothing item and flush the affected area with cold water as soon as possible.
  2. Make a solution of either enzyme-based laundry detergent or liquid dishwashing soap with cold water. Soak area that is stained with the mixture and leave it to sit for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Using a damp cloth, gently scrub and massage the stained area until the liquid is absorbed into the fabric.
  4. Rinse the soapy residue with cold water.
  5. If a stain persists, you can take an extra measure by sprinkling a generous amount of baking soda on top of the stain and letting it sit for about 1 hour. Alternatively, you can apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide directly to stained area.
  6. Once you’ve removed the urine stain from the sweatshirt, throw it into the wash in the hottest temperature setting you can use, based on the care label of the fabric.
  7. Afterwards, you can hang up your shirt and enjoy your revitalized clothing!

Conclusion

Urine stains can be quite stubborn, but with a little patience, right ingredients, and some elbow grease, they can be removed from clothing with relative ease. It’s important to take action as soon as possible to prevent the urine from setting into fabric and making the stain more difficult to remove. Additionally, it’s important to always read a garment’s care label before cleaning it to make sure you know the safest way to do it.
