1. Use Cold Water and Soap

First, create a mixture of cold water and mild laundry detergent in a bowl or bucket. Gently submerge the stained socks into the mixture until the fabric is fully saturated. Let the socks soak for at least 20 minutes. Once done, rinse the socks off with cold or lukewarm water and let them dry in a natural, airy environment.

2. Apply a Stain Remover

Once they are dry, look to see if stain has disappeared. In some cases, further treatment may be required. If the stain remains, apply a liquid laundry detergent that contains enzymes directly to area. Rub the detergent in gently, working it into the fibers of the fabric, then let it sit for 15 minutes. After that, rinse the detergent out of the socks in the sink with lukewarm water.

3. Wash and Dry Again

Once you have applied laundry detergent and given it time to work, wash the socks in washing machine, according to the care label instructions. Finally, dry the socks in the dryer, still following care label instructions. This should eliminate any remaining stain.

4. Use Vinegar and Baking Soda

For tougher stains, you can use a combination of white vinegar and baking soda. Create a paste from equal parts of both ingredients and apply it to affected areas of the socks. Use a scrub brush or a toothbrush to scrub the paste into the fabric, then leave it for about an hour. When the time is up, rinse the paste off with water and then launder the socks as usual.
