Before You Start Cleaning
- Make sure the urine stain is not already dried or set in. If it already has a crusty texture, the cleaning solutions might not work.
- Check care label or instructions for your shoes. Depending on the material, you may have to take a different approach.
- Take off any insoles or removable lining from shoes before cleaning them.
- Ventilate the area. Open a window or put a fan in the room.
Removing Urine Stains from Sneakers
The first step when removing any type of stain is to blot it up. You can use a cloth or paper towel to do this. Try to absorb as much of the liquid as possible.
What You'll Need:
- White vinegar solution : mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water
- Baking soda solution : mix two tablespoons of baking soda with a cup of warm water
- Clean cloths : one damp and one dry
Step One: White Vinegar Solution
- Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water.
- Dip a clean cloth into the mixture, making sure not to saturate it.
- Gently rub the cloth over the urine stain.
- Rinse cloth and repeat this process until the stain is gone.
Step Two: Baking Soda Solution
- Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with a cup of warm water.
- Dip a clean cloth into the mixture, making sure not to saturate it.
- Gently rub the cloth over urine stain.
- Rinse the cloth and repeat this process until the stain is gone.
Step Three: Dry the Shoes
- Once the stain is gone, use a dry cloth to dry the area completely.
- If the area is still damp, put the shoe in direct sunlight (making sure to not leave it there too long to avoid damage) or use a hairdryer.
