If you’re dealing with a fresh urine stain on your pencil skirt, your first step is to blot the spot with a cloth or paper towel. Blotting is a crucial step in stain removal because it eliminates the moisture before it has a chance to set in and become difficult to remove. After that, turn the skirt inside out and pretreat the stain with laundry detergent and lukewarm water. Let the mixture sit on the fabric for about five minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.
If the stain persists, try using an enzymatic pet stain remover. Enzymes are proteins that help break down other substances, in this case, the proteins present in urine. To use an enzymatic cleaner, rinse the back of the skirt with lukewarm water and apply enzyme cleaner. Work it into the fabric gently with a soft bristled brush, then let the cleaner sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse again with lukewarm water to remove any residue.
For tough, set-in urine stains, try soaking the skirt in a mixture of one gallon of lukewarm water, three tablespoons of white vinegar, and one teaspoon of laundry detergent. Soak the skirt overnight, and then rinse according to instructions above.
If stain persists or if stain removers above don’t work, a professional dry cleaner may be able to help. They have special products designed to help tackle the most stubborn of stains.
