Urine stains can be notoriously difficult to remove depending on the fabric they are embedded in and the severity of staining. Parkas are generally made of thick, waterproof material, so the right approach must be taken to ensure the stain is properly removed. Follow this guide for instructions on how to remove urine stains from your parka.

Things You'll Need

  • Dish detergent
  • Water
  • Borax
  • White vinegar
  • A cleaning cloth
  • A toothbrush or other soft-bristled brush

Instructions

  1. Pre-treat the Stain: Before you start working on the stain itself, pre-treat it with a generous amount of dish detergent. Use a clean cloth or sponge to rub the detergent into the stained area of the parka, making sure that it is all equally coated. Allow the detergent to sit on the stain for at least 10 minutes before rinsing with warm, but not hot, water.
  2. Mix a Cleaning Solution: In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup borax and 1/4 cup white vinegar. This will create a cleaning solution that should be used after the pre-treatment step. Using a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush, dip the bristles into the solution and apply to the stained area of the parka. Use gentle, circular motions when applying the solution to the stain.
  3. Rinse the Parka: After the cleaning solution has been applied to the stain, rinse it off with cold water. Be sure to rinse the parka thoroughly to ensure that all of the cleaning solution has been completely removed. If any residue remains, the parka may become discolored in that area.
  4. Repeat as Necessary: Depending on the severity of the stain, it may take multiple treatments to effectively remove it. If necessary, repeat steps 1-3 until stain is gone. If the stain persists, you may need to seek professional help to restore your parka.

By following these simple steps, you should be able to remove the urine stain from your parka and restore it to its original condition!
