First and foremost, soak the pajamas in cold water as soon as possible. Fill up a sink or bucket with cold water and submerge the pajamas. It will be helpful to use a stain remover like oxygen bleach to help loosen the urine stain. Let fabric soak for 30 minutes to an hour, then rinse them off with cold water.
For persistent stains, use a commercial stain remover. Spray the stain according to instructions on product, and then let it sit for about 10 minutes. Use your hands to agitate fabric, or scrub out the stain with a soft brush. Rinse the pajamas again with cold water.
After stain has been removed, you can put pajamas in washer. Use an enzymatic detergent for best results. Place pajamas in the washer and set washer to the appropriate cycle. Make sure to use cold water and a gentle cycle. To avoid getting any other items stained, you may want to wash the pajamas separately.
Once the washing cycle has finished and you have taken out the pajamas, inspect the fabric to make sure that the stain is totally gone. If not, repeat cleaning steps and then hang the pajamas out to dry in the sun. This will also help get rid of any residual odors.
To avoid urine stains from happening in the future, make sure that the person is properly wearing diapers or protective clothing when sleeping in their pajamas. Change the diaper or clothing immediately when wet, and make sure the area is completely clean and dry before putting on the pajamas.
