Removing Urine Stains from Outerwear

The first step in getting rid of urine stains on jackets or coats is to soak the affected area in cold water as soon as possible. Let fabric sit in the water for up to an hour, then rinse the item in cold water and check to see if the stain has been reduced or removed. If not, you can try the next step.

Treating Urine Stains with Vinegar

Mix one part white vinegar and two parts water in a bowl. Soak a cloth or towel in the mixture and dab it onto the stain until it is completely covered. Let the vinegar solution sit on the fabric for 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water and repeat process if stain is still visible. If the stain persists after three treatments, move on to final step.

Baking Soda and Water Paste

Mix four teaspoons of baking soda and one teaspoon of water in a bowl to create a thick paste. Spread the paste over the stain, making sure that it is completely covered. Let the paste sit for at least 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water. The baking soda paste should help draw stain out of the fabric, though it may take several applications to fully remove it.

Final Tips

Always spot-test any cleaning agents on an inconspicuous area before using them on the stain. Additionally, avoid using hot water or hot dryers on the fabric, as heat will cause the stain to set and make it much harder to remove.
