Nobody likes dealing with an unexpected urine stain on their favorite dress, but it happens. Instead of throwing away the dress, try these simple cleaning techniques. Have everything you need handy, so you can act quickly and avoid letting the stain set in:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Cold water
  • Paper towels or a cloth

Instructions

First, gently blot the area with paper towels or a cloth to absorb excess liquid. Do not rub stain as this can weaken the fabric. If the fabric is colorfast, you may want to use cold water to rinse off the area before moving on.

In a bowl, mix together one tablespoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of white vinegar. You should get a thick paste. Using a damp cloth, spread the paste over the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Once it's dry, scrape off any excess paste and rinse the area with cold water. Then, dab the area once again with cloth or paper towels until all of the moisture is gone.

Repeat the previous steps until the stain has been removed. Afterwards, let the dress air dry.

Additional Tips

  • If the stain still isn't gone, try pre-treating the spot with a stain remover.
  • Afterwards, wash the entire dress on the setting appropriate for the fabric.
  • For extra protection, you can apply a fabric protector spray.
  • To prevent future stains, consider using a mattress or pet pad with a waterproof cover.
