The first and most important step when trying to remove urine stains from cotton is to act quickly. It’s best if you can treat the stain immediately. The longer urine has to set in to the fabric, the harder it will be to remove. So be sure to take action as soon as possible.
Next, rinse the stain with cold water. You don’t want to use hot or warm water because this could make the stain worse. Then, blot stain with a clean towel or cloth to remove as much of moisture as possible.
Once you’ve blotted the stain, create a solution of equal parts white vinegar and liquid detergent. If you’re dealing with a large stain, you may want to use slightly more vinegar than detergent in your solution. Carefully pour the solution over stain, and let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
After the stain has sat for at least 10 minutes, rinse it with cold water one more time. Be sure to use cold water to avoid setting the stain. Then, simply allow the fabric to air dry. Don’t put it in the dryer or apply any heat until you know the stain has been completely removed.
