What Causes Urine Stains?

Urine stains are caused by proteins present in urine that coagulate when exposed to heat, moisture, or detergents. These proteins can cause permanent discoloration that is difficult to remove.

What You'll Need:

  • White Vinegar
  • Borax
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Baking Soda
  • Cold Water
  • Mild Detergent

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Soak the stained area for about 10 minutes in cold water.
  2. Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with one quart of warm water, and soak the stained area again.
  3. Sprinkle some borax onto stain and let sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Mix a paste of three parts hydrogen peroxide with one part baking soda, and apply to the stain.
  5. Let the paste sit for several hours, then brush off with a scrub brush.
  6. Wash the garment according to instructions on the label, using a mild detergent.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always follow the care instructions on the clothing label when cleaning.
  • Always check clothing for colorfastness before applying any cleaning solutions.
  • Do not use hot water when soaking the stained area, as this could set the stain permanently.
