The first step in removing urine stains from a business suit is to act as quickly as possible. The longer the stain is left untreated, the more difficult it will be to remove. To start, blot the stain with a paper towel or cloth. Blotting helps to absorb the moisture, which prevents stain from setting into the fabric.
Next, you’ll need to pre-treat the area with a specialized cleaning solution. You can purchase sprays made especially for urine stains, or mix up a solution at home using equal parts white vinegar and water. Once the pre-treatment is applied, let the solution sit on the fabric for about 30 minutes before rinsing it out. Be sure to not scrub area too vigorously as this may cause the stain to spread.
After pre-treating the stain with a cleaning solution, it’s time to move on to actual washing process. Start by dabbing some dish soap onto the stain, then run suit through the washing machine on a delicate cycle with cold water. After cycle is complete, check to see if the stain is still visible.
If the stain remains, no problem. Simply fill a bucket with water and add a ½ cup of laundry detergent. Put the item of clothing into bucket and let it soak for an additional 30 minutes. After the soaking period, run the suit through an additional washing cycle on a gentle setting to rinse it out. Soon enough, the stain should have disappeared.
For extra stubborn stains, it may be necessary to repeat some of these steps. Just remember to always use a gentle hand when dealing with fabric and avoid harsh scrubbing or excessive heat. With a little bit of patience and the right cleaning products, you’ll have that stain out of your business suit in no time.
