Urine stains can be one of the most difficult and persistent types of stains to remove from garments, which is why it's important to act quickly to treat them. The longer a urine stain sits, the harder it is to remove. Here are some steps to follow for removing urine stains from business attire.
As soon as you notice the stain, rinse it with cold water immediately. Do not use hot water, as this could make the stain worse. Rinse until most of the urine is removed from the clothing.
In a large bowl or sink, mix together a solution of 1 tablespoon of dish soap with 1 quart of cold water. Soak stained clothing in solution for at least one hour before laundering.
After the clothing has soaked, mix together equal parts vinegar and baking soda, and rub into the stain. Allow it to sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing it off.
Using a clean towel, blot the area with rubbing alcohol if stain remains after vinegar and baking soda treatment. Be sure to only blot — do not rub — to avoid spreading stain.
When all the treatment methods have been applied and there is no trace of the stain, launder the clothing in hot water with laundry detergent. Hang the clothing to dry and check that the stain is completely gone before wearing.
With a few simple steps, it is possible to remove urine stains from business attire. Of course, the best practice is to avoid these kinds of accidents altogether. But in the event that an accident happens, you can be confident in knowing how to clean up the mess.
