Step One: Blotting

The first step to getting rid of urine stains is blotting. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to blot up as much of the urine as possible. Do not rub or scrub at the stain, as this can cause it to spread and set in.

Step Two: Pretreatment

Once you’ve blotted away as much of the urine as possible, the next step is to pretreat the stain. Mix together a solution of 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and 2 cups of cold water. Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture and apply it directly to the stain. Rub gently in a circular motion to work solution into the fabric.

Step Three: Washing

Once you’ve treated stain, it’s time to launder the apron as normal. Be sure to read care instructions on the label before you begin. If the instructions recommend hand washing, use cold water and a gentle detergent. For machine washing, use gentle cycle and the coldest water setting possible.

Step Four: Drying

After washing, hang the apron in a well-ventilated area to air dry. Avoid direct sunlight or extreme heat, as these can cause the stain to set.

Step Five: Repeat as Necessary

Depending on severity of the stain, you may need to repeat some or all of steps above. If the stain persists, consider taking the apron to a professional dry cleaner.
