If the sap is still fresh, use a paper towel or piece of absorbent cloth to blot away as much of the stain as possible. Do not rub too vigorously, as this will spread the sap and make the stain worse. Once you’ve blotted up as much of the sap as you can, apply some rubbing alcohol to a clean paper towel or rag and dab at the stain. You should start to see the sap lifting away. If the stain lingers, you may want to try using a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar. Dip a clean cloth in mixture and dab the stain until it lifts away.
For set-in sap stains, start by trying to scrape off as much as possible with a rubber spatula or a dull knife. Then, place item of clothing on top of a few paper towels and pour some rubbing alcohol onto area. Allow the rubbing alcohol to sit for several minutes before blotting away with a clean cloth. This should help lift away the sap stain. If the stain remains, dab a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water onto the stained spot. Let it sit for a few minutes before blotting away with a clean cloth. Repeat this process until stain is gone.
To avoid future tree sap stains, you may want to keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol handy while working with trees. This will ensure that you can quickly and easily remove any tree sap that may get onto your clothes as soon as it lands.
