Tree sap is notorious for staining outdoor fabrics—and it may seem like an intimidating task to get rid of the stain. However, there are a few simple steps you can take that will help you get rid of the sap without damaging your uniform.
To start, place the stained area of the uniform into a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. Freezing sap helps to harden it, making it easier to scrape off with a dull knife. Once it’s hardened, use a plastic scraper or credit card to carefully chip away the sap.
After you have scraped away as much of sap as possible, mix a solution of laundry detergent and lukewarm water and apply it directly to the stained area. Soak for about 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water.
If the stain remains after using the laundry detergent, try soaking the area with a mixture of warm water and vinegar. The combination of vinegar and water should break down and loosen the remaining stain. Let the garment soak for 20-30 minutes, then rinse and launder in the usual fashion.
Tree sap stains on uniforms and other clothes can be easily removed with a few simple steps. Start by freezing the sap, then use a detergent and water solution followed by a vinegar and water mixture. With a little patience, you can easily remove sap without damaging your uniform.
