Once you’ve removed all the visible sap, you may find that it’s left behind a sticky residue. To get rid of this simply dab some alcohol onto the stain, or use a commercial stain-removing product. Rub solution in gently with a cloth, then rinse with lukewarm water.
Once the sap residue has been removed, it’s time to treat the stain itself. Start by applying a liquid laundry detergent directly to the affected area. Then, soak the garment in lukewarm water for 30 minutes. Finish by running the item through a regular cycle in the washing machine.
After the garment has been washed, it's important to dry it quickly as this will help to prevent the stain from setting. Either tumble dry or hang the item up to air dry. Once completely dry, check the stain to make sure it’s gone. If so, the process is complete! If not, repeat the steps above until the stain is completely gone.
The best way to keep sap off your clothing is to wear protective gear when working near trees – gloves and long sleeves are a must! This will help to ensure that your clothing remains stain-free.
