The first step in removing tree sap stains is to gently scrape off as much of sap as possible. Be sure to use a butter knife or plastic scraper to avoid damaging the fabric. You may need to apply some pressure, but take care not to push too hard and damage the material.
Once you have scraped off as much of the sap as possible, it’s time to apply a stain remover. Start by dabbing a little bit of the cleaner onto the stain. Rub the fabric gently in a circular motion for about a minute. Then, rinse the area thoroughly with clean water.
If the stain still remains after applying the stain remover and rinsing, you may need to soak the garment. Fill a bucket with lukewarm water and add a few tablespoons of liquid detergent. Place the stained garment in the soapy water and let it soak for at least 30 minutes. After soaking, rinse the item with warm water.
Once the garment has been thoroughly rinsed with warm water, it’s time to air dry it. Hang item outside in the sun, or indoors if necessary, and let it dry completely. Once the garment is dry, check to make sure that stain is gone and that no soap residue remains.
If the stain is still present after above steps, you may need to repeat them until stain is removed. It can be a time-consuming process, but it’s important to take the time to make sure the stain is completely gone.
