The first step to removing tree sap is to act fast - the fresher the sap stain the easier it is to remove.
Try to carefully scrape away any excess sap you can with a dull knife. Make sure not to rub the sap into fabric further!
Dampen a cloth with rubbing alcohol and blot the affected area. Be careful not to use too much alcohol and saturate fabric as this will cause discoloration.
Once you have removed as much of the sap as possible, apply a prewash stain remover solution according to instructions on the product.
Finally, launder item as normal in hot water and detergent.
If you didn't manage to catch the tree sap stain when it was fresh, don't worry - there are still steps you can take to get rid of it.
Begin by using a dull knife to gently scrape away as much of the hardened sap as possible. Once you have done this, dampen a cloth with rubbing alcohol and dab at the sap stain.
Another option is to try rubbing sap stain with a dry-cleaning solvent like kerosene. Test this in an inconspicuous area of the fabric first to make sure it doesn't discolor the fabric.
Once you've loosened the sap stain, apply a prewash stain remover solution as before and launder the item as normal.
