Tree sap can be incredibly difficult to remove from clothing, especially if it’s delicate sleepwear material. If you’ve got tree sap stains on your favorite PJs, don’t panic — there are effective methods for removing them. Here’s how:

Removing Tree Sap Stains from Sleepwear

  1. As soon as possible, gently scrape off any excess sap with a dull knife or spoon.
  2. Apply oil to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Oil helps break up the tree sap and loosen the stain.
  3. Rub liquid laundry detergent onto the stain until it starts to foam.
  4. Use a soft cloth to dab stain until the sap is removed. Do not rub!
  5. In a separate container, mix one part white vinegar and two parts water.
  6. Soak the stained area in the vinegar mixture for a few minutes.
  7. Rinse the sleepwear in cold water until all the soap is gone.
  8. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2-7.

Tips for Removing Tree Sap Stains from Sleepwear

  • Avoid using hot water when washing stained sleepwear — doing so can cause the stain to set and become impossible to remove.
  • If the stain won’t come out, try heavy-duty spot removers such as OxiClean or Zout.
  • Never use bleach on sleepwear — it can weaken fabric and cause discoloration.
  • After removing the tree sap stain, launder the sleepwear as usual using the gentle cycle.
