Tree sap stains can be frustrating to remove from any fabric, but especially from delicate silk shantung. If you have sap on yours, we’ll walk you through steps of taking it out with minimal damage.

What You'll Need:
- A bucket of warm water
- 2 sponges
- Mild detergent
- White vinegar
- A clean white cloth
- Nail polish remover
Removing Tree Sap Stains from Silk Shantung
- Make sure your item is machine-washable and colorfast before cleaning.
- Soak one of the sponges in the bucket of warm, soapy water.
- Gently dab the stained area with the wet sponge. Do not scrub because silk is very delicate.
- Rinse the affected area with clean water, using the second sponge.
- Mix 1 teaspoon of white vinegar with 1 quart of lukewarm water.
- Soak a clean, white cloth in the mixture and dab the stained area.
- If the stain doesn't come out, gently rub the area with a few drops of nail polish remover.
- Rinse the affected area with cold water, using the second sponge.
- Air dry or machine dry on the lowest heat setting.
