The first step in removing tree sap from silk satin is to harden the sap itself. Place a few ice cubes on the stain and leave them in place until the sap has hardened. This usually takes about 10 minutes.
Once the sap is hardened, use a blunt knife, such as a butter knife, to scrape away the excess. Take care not to put any pressure on the fabric, as this could compromise fibers and cause wear.
Once the excess has been removed, pre-treat the sap stain with a few drops of pH-neutral detergent, like Woolite, and some mild hand soap. Work this mixture into the area using your fingertips and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.
Once soap mixture has had time to sit, rinse away area with tepid water. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub away any residue. As with Step 2, take care not to press down too hard or cause any damage to the fabric.
Once the area is free of soap and residue, dab a clean towel or cloth into white vinegar. Gently apply the vinegar to the stained area and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse away the vinegar with cool water.
Once the stain is dissolved, use a dry cleaning solution like K2r Spot Lifter to dry clean the fabric. Follow the instructions on the product packaging for best results.
