Summer is the perfect time to show off those shorts, but unfortunately, it's the season for lots of outdoor play and nature exploration, which can lead to unwanted tree sap stains on your clothing. If it's happened to you, don't panic! Getting rid of tree sap stains is not as daunting a task as it may seem. Here are some tips on how to clean tree sap stains from shorts.
The first thing you should do when you notice tree sap on your shorts is to scrape away any excess sap before trying to clean it. Using a dull knife, carefully scrape away any sap that hasn't seeped deeply into the fabric. Be gentle so as not to damage shorts.
After you've scraped away the excess sap, the next step is to blot the stain with rubbing alcohol. Dip a cotton ball or a soft cloth in rubbing alcohol and gently dab it over the sap stain. Do not scrub or rub, as this could cause the stain to spread and set in deeper. You should see the sap start to dissolve.
Once sap has been dissolved by the rubbing alcohol, the next step is to use laundry detergent to remove stain. Put a small amount of liquid laundry detergent directly onto the sap stain. Let it sit for a few minutes, then gently rub the stain with a soft brush or sponge. Rinse well and repeat if necessary.
When the sap stain is no longer visible, you can wash the shorts as you normally would. To protect fabric, use cold water and a delicate cycle on your washing machine. Once the shorts have been washed, hang them up to dry and you're good to go!
