Tree sap stains can be an eyesore on an otherwise perfect pair of shoes. The thick, sticky substance is usually very resistant to removal, making sap-stained shoes difficult to clean. Fortunately, there are several ways to remove tree sap stains from leather, canvas, and synthetic materials.
Leather shoes can be particularly vulnerable to sap stains, but with a few simple steps they can be looking as good as new. The best way to remove tree sap from leather is to use a mild soap and warm water:
Canvas shoes may be more durable than leather, but they can still be damaged by tree sap. The first step to removing sap stains from canvas is to let the stain sit for 15 minutes to soften it. After that, the sap should be easily removed with either a toothbrush or a damp cloth. If the stain persists, try using a combination of dish soap and water applied with a soft brush.
Removing tree sap from synthetic materials such as nylon and polyester can be a bit more challenging. For stubborn sap stains, try using a solvent such as rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. Apply a small amount of the solvent to the stain using a cotton swab and allow it to sit for a few minutes before wiping it away with a damp cloth. If necessary, repeat the process until the stain is removed.
Tree sap stains can be a huge nuisance, but with a bit of patience and the right method, you can restore your shoes to like-new condition. Whether you're dealing with leather, canvas, or synthetic materials, the steps above will help you remove tree sap stains with ease.
