Step 1: Freeze the Sap

The first step in removing tree sap from clothing is to freeze it. Place the item of clothing in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer overnight. This will cause the sap to harden and become easier to remove.

Step 2: Scrape it Off

Once the sap has hardened, you can scrape it off with a butter knife or other blunt-tipped tool. Be sure to use pressure slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the fabric.

Step 3: Apply Nail Polish Remover

Once majority of sap is removed, apply a small amount of non-acetone nail polish remover to the area. Rub the remover into the stain with a cloth and let it sit for five minutes.

Step 4: Rinse the Stain With Cold Water

Rinse the affected area with cold water until all of the nail polish remover is gone. Do not use hot water, as this may set stain.

Step 5: Apply Detergent

Apply a small amount of laundry detergent to the sap-stained area. Massage it into the fabric and let it sit for five minutes.

Step 6: Wash Item

Wash the item with cold water using a mild detergent. Do not use bleach or hot water, as these may damage the fabric and set stain.

Step 7: Dry Item

Air-dry item on a clothesline or lay it flat on a towel. Do not put it in the dryer, as the heat may set the stain.
