Fill the bucket with lukewarm water, several drops of dish soap, and a cup of white vinegar. Submerge stained area of the dress in the water and let it soak for at least half an hour. Gently rub the area to help loosen the sap from the fabric.
Once the dress is out of the bucket solution and rinsed, dab the stained area with rubbing alcohol, using a cotton ball or a clean cloth. This should further help to remove the sap. Rinse the dress again.
Put the dress in the washing machine with your regular laundry detergent and a cup of white vinegar. Set the washer to its delicate cycle and launder as usual. This should remove any remaining tree sap stain.
If tree sap stain still remains after laundering, try this final step. Wet fabric and apply a few drops of shampoo directly to the stain. Gently rub the shampoo into the fabric until the stain begins to lift. Rinse the shampoo out of dress and repeat if needed.
You can now proudly wear your shift dress again, without any sign of tree sap stain.
