Tree sap is very sticky and difficult to remove. It can easily get on clothing and sticking to fabrics that are lightweight and delicate, like seersucker. Before you start, make sure to read the clothing care label on your garment to see if there are any special instructions.
To remove tree sap stains from a seersucker garment, you will need:
Start by drying off the sap as best you can with a clean white cloth. Do not rub or scrub it, as this can make the stain worse. Instead, just pat the excess sap away until stained area is dry.
Next, place a few ice cubes in a zip-lock bag and place over stained area for several minutes. This will help freeze the sap, making it easier to remove. Once sap has frozen, scrape it away with a dull knife or spoon.
After sap has been removed, soak the stain in a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts cold water for 15 minutes. Then, rinse with cold water, and launder the garment in warm water with a mild dish soap or gentle detergent.
Before drying garment, check to make sure the stain is gone. If it is still there, repeat the process until the stain is completely removed.
