To start, you'll need to remove as much of the excess tree sap residue as possible. To do this, use a butter knife or another similarly safe tool to gently scrape off what remains on the lace. Be careful not to press too hard, as that could cause damage to lace.
Once you've removed all of the excess residue, use a petroleum-based product such as mineral oil, baby oil, or WD-40 to soften remaining sap. Put a few drops onto a cotton swab and apply it directly to the stained area. This should help to break down the residue for easier removal.
Once the sap has been softened, create a soapy solution using two parts water and one part liquid dishwashing detergent. Soak the stained lace in the solution for at least 30 minutes. The water should help to further break down the sap and make it easier to remove.
When the lace is finished soaking, gently scrub the area with a soft, damp cloth or toothbrush to remove the sap residue. Then, rinse the lace off with cold water.
Finally, allow the lace to air dry before giving it a final inspection. If there is still sap residue present, repeat steps above until all of sap is successfully removed.
