Step 1: Scrape off Excess Tree Sap

To begin removing tree sap from a pillow, use a dull knife or spoon to carefully scrape away any excess tree sap. This step is important because it will help to prevent the stain from spreading.

Step 2: Apply a Stain Remover

Once you’ve scraped off the sap, apply a commercial stain remover to the sap stain. Let product sit on the stain for one to two minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3: Wipe Off Stain Remover

After the stain remover has had time to work, use a clean cloth to wipe off any remaining residue from the pillow. Be sure to use gentle strokes, taking care not to rub the stain too hard or it may spread.

Step 4: Rinse With Warm Water

Next, rinse off the stain remover with warm water. Use a sponge or rag and gently dab the area until all traces of the stain remover are gone. Then, allow the pillow to air dry completely.

Step 5: Launder the Pillow

When the pillow is completely dry, launder it according to the instructions on the fabric care label. Be sure to use cold water and a mild detergent or special stain remover.

Additional Tips

  • If the tree sap stain is stubborn, apply a few drops of white vinegar directly to the spot and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing with warm water.
  • Make sure to never place a stained pillow in the dryer, as this may cause the stain to set permanently.
