Removing Sap Stains

  1. Examine the stain to check that it is indeed tree sap. If so, leave the garment as is and do not attempt to rub it off.
  2. Mix a few drops of dish soap with hot water in a bowl.
  3. Soak a soft cloth or sponge in mixture, then dab stain until the majority of the sap has been transferred to the cloth.
  4. Once stain has been removed, rinse the garment thoroughly with cold water.
  5. To remove any remaining residue, apply a mixture of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts warm water to the area. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before rinsing again.
  6. Finally, let garment dry.

Preventing Future Sap Stains

To prevent future sap stains, it’s important to never wipe sap off directly onto clothing. Instead, use a cotton swab or a piece of cloth to remove sap when possible. You should also keep your clothes away from trees or other sources of sap. Finally, it’s wise to spot clean immediately if you do happen to get sap on your clothing.
